What is C.O.P.S.? Community On Patrol in Schools Cleveland ISD’s Community on Patrol in Schools (C.O.P.S.) is a volunteer program designed to involve parents, extended family, business partners and community members in a collaborative approach to reinforce safety and security in our schools. C.O.P.S. will provide an “extra pair of eyes” in our schools by serving as hall monitors, assisting with class changes, positively engaging with students during breakfast and lunch and encouraging them to make good choices. Volunteers must: 1. Pass a Background Check 2. Be 18 or Older 3. Have a Valid ID 4. Cleveland ISD implemented a shared vision and mission with guiding documents last school year. Our shared vision was created by stakeholders for stakeholders, including parents and students. Throughout the school year, we will be surveying our families on three occasions to measure our progress in the implementation of the shared vision and determine areas where continuous improvement is needed. Additionally, this survey will provide a high-level overview of our families' perceptions regarding their overall experiences in CISD. Open-ended responses at the end of the survey will allow you to provide more specific information that may not have been asked or addressed in the questions listed in the survey. If you have students enrolled at multiple campuses, please complete one survey for each of the campuses your children attend. The BOY survey is open September 6-27, 2024. Data collected in this survey is anonymous, and we ask for and appreciate your authentic insight and feedback. The district will be using the survey results in October to reflect on our progress and make any adjustments to our implementation plans. Please take the time to participate in our survey. We are incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Erika Montesnieto, RN at Eastside Elementary. Beyond her dedication to the district, Erika was a wonderful wife to former school board member, Aaron, and a loving mother to their children. The district has been made aware of another threat that has been made against a Cleveland ISD campus for tomorrow, Tuesday September 17th. In line with all other threats that have been made across the city, state, and nation this past week, Cleveland ISD is taking this very seriously and is investigating thoroughly. Tomorrow will be a normal school day across the district, but all campuses will see an increased presence of law enforcement throughout the day, along with increased usage of our metal detector wands and drug dog. Parents, please help us by alerting district officials of anything you may know in regards to these recent threats. Please also talk to your children about the severity of making such threats and the consequences that follow.

This morning, CHS was placed into a lockdown emergency that was triggered by a campus staff member activating their state-mandated silent panic alert technology. Out of precaution after seeing CHS activate a lockdown emergency, CMS was also placed into a lockdown emergency. This activation was a FALSE ALARM. Both lockdowns have since been lifted and campus operations will resume as normal. We would like to thank district police, the City of Cleveland, Liberty County, the Cleveland Fire Department, and the Constable's Office for their quick response time to this lockdown.
